Game of Thrones – Mise En Scene
Props and settings
In game of thrones to make the show seem as true to the
period as possible they use old castle ruins to film their scenes next to or
construct sets that keep to the medieval style of the program. For example in
their scenes they would not have a brick house but rather wooden houses or
larger building built of stone within which the interior is made of dark woods
that date it as a period drama.
To keep the show to it’s period the props are medieval type
weapons like swords, daggers bows and crossbow. The jewellery is all made of
gold and silver and looks chunky, which gives it a mediaeval feel. Little
things like this make the program more convincing than if they were wearing
watches.
Costume, hair and make-up
In this show men tend to wear armour or large fur coats or
leather clothes. The women tend to wear long gowns and dresses.
In this show none of the character use hair products like
hair gel, instead their hair is free flowing and looks quite greasy.
There is very little make up in this show as it did not
exist in the medieval times.
Facial expression and body language
The character stand up straight and tall to show strength,
their actions are strong and powerful which brings across the idea that they
want to look like a powerful person even if they are not. This makes them seem
threatening to their enemies.
